This is a really wonderful and quite unique shield ring. Crafted in 15ct Gold, it is fully hallmarked for London, and the year 1883, making it Victorian. The shield features a sparkling ruby at its centre which is set in a very pretty starbust design. It has a solid, wide shank and it measures a UK size N 1/2, which is a US size 7. It weighs 2.56g.

This ring remains excellent antique condition, which is quite exceptional given this is a ring over 140 years old.

Shield rings were traditionally worn as signet rings, sometimes with a personal crest that was used to seal documents and letters. Nowadays, these are worn as statement rings, or left to loved ones as heirlooms.
